Last Friday, February 28, the 3rd year students of Tourism Management Program visited Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) as part of the course about tourism logistics, to learn about mass transit operations and related functions of MRT Purple Line (Chalong Ratchadham Line). This visit was separated into 2 sessions : (1) attending a session for getting an overview of administration, introduction of this line and main operational functions, as well as observing the Central Control Room or CCR and (2) visiting the depot which is used for maintenance works including the wash plant, and the stabling yard.
This Purple Line serves travellers between the northwestern suburbs of Bangkok in Nonthaburi Province and connects them to the inner north of Bangkok. The length of this line is 23 km. The operating speed is 80 km/ hour, and the track gauge is 1.435 meters.
